Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about how the Provena registry works, what it documents — and what it does not.
Provena Registry is a digital registry dedicated to the documentation and traceability of luxury watches. It lets you build a watch's ownership and provenance history, report a theft and look up a watch's status by its serial number.
No. Provena is a documentation and traceability platform. Provena does not authenticate, certify or guarantee the authenticity of watches. Recorded information relies on owners' declarations. For an authenticity assessment, consult a watchmaker or a specialised house.
Enter a watch's serial number on the home page. The registry indicates whether the watch is registered, whether a provenance history exists and whether it has been reported as stolen. No personal owner details are displayed publicly.
The ownership passport is a digital document summarising a watch's registration to the registry under its declared owner's name. The provenance file gathers the ownership history, supporting documents, service records and photographs you provide. None of these documents constitutes an authenticity certification.
No. During a public look-up, only status information (registered watch, presence of a history, theft report) is visible. Your details remain confidential. To learn more, see our privacy policy.
Go to the 'Report a stolen watch' page after signing in. A report makes the watch identifiable during any serial-number look-up. Note: a Provena report does not constitute a police complaint — be sure to contact the relevant authorities.
From your account, each watch can be transferred to a new owner (name + email). The Provena ID and provenance history are preserved; both parties receive an email confirmation.
Account creation, watch registration and serial-number look-up are free. Premium options (provenance files, passports, professional tools) are offered per use or by subscription.
We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures and never sell your data. The details of processing, processors and your rights (access, deletion, portability) are set out in our privacy policy.
